A video doing the rounds on social media shows how pupils from Cedar High, a public school in Mitchell’s Plain, Cape Town, witnessed what many believe was a gang initiation gone horribly wrong.
Watch: Mitchell’s Plain gangs reportedly behind Cedar High mass stabbing
Gob-smacked students of the Mitchell’s Plan high school watched on in horror as tensions between two groups that had gathered at the courtyard broke out into a violent brawl.
Details around the incident are still sketchy at this time.
However, according to numerous reports posted on social media by residents of the eastern Cape Town community, speculation is rife that gangsterism may have been at the centre of the bloody riots that reportedly culminated in multiple stabbings.
A Facebook crime alert page, Deezy Boy, claimed, in a post published on Thursday, that reliable sources came forward with information tying notorious Mitchell’s Plain gangs, the Bad Boys and the Fancy Gang, to the mass stabbing.
According to the unnamed sources, it’s believed Cedar High pupils belonging to gangs have been forcibly recruiting innocent learners with threats of public humiliation if they refused.
“Members of the Bad boys and Fancy gangs are forcing teenagers to join their gangs or be humiliated and assaulted in public,” the post claimed.
While the Mitchell’s Plain school has yet to issue a statement addressing the reported mass stabbing, it’s believed at least one male pupil was rushed to the hospital for treatment of serious, life-threatening wounds.
Moreover, it’s alleged that Cedar High’s principal was alerted about the mass gangster recruitment taking place at the school as early as last week “but failed to react.”
This is a developing story.
