Vodacom United Rugby Championship (URC) fans are advised to anticipate road closures and plan their travel and parking arrangements ahead of the highly anticipated Grand Final between the DHL Stormers and Munster, taking place on Saturday, 27 May 2023.
Vodacom URC Grand Final: Parking, travel suggestions and road closures for Saturday, 27 May 2023
The City of Cape Town has implemented various measures to accommodate the expected influx of spectators to the Green Point precinct.
With tickets for the game selling out within a mere three hours, parking availability in and around the Green Point precinct will be limited.
To address this, the City of Cape Town will make use of the Civic Centre parking facility, providing over 450 bays on a first-come-first-served basis from 14:30 onwards.
In an effort to ease congestion and offer convenient transportation options, free MyCiTi shuttles will be available for Vodacom URC Final ticketholders.
The shuttles will operate from multiple locations, including Civic Centre, Thibault Square, CTICC, and Century City, with the service commencing at 15:00.
Shuttles will depart every 15 minutes or when full, ensuring spectators reach the DHL Stadium in a timely manner. The final return shuttle from the stadium will depart at 22:45.
Parking facilities have been allocated for MyCiTi bus users departing from the Civic Centre, Woodstock Parking Area, Hertzog Parking Area, CTICC P1 parking area, Century Boulevard at Century City, and UCT.
These parking areas will provide spaces for spectators to safely leave their vehicles while they enjoy the match. Each location offers its own frequency and schedule for the MyCiTi shuttles, ensuring convenient transport to and from the stadium.
Due to expected heavy congestion, it is recommended that those utilising e-hailing services opt for drop-off and collection points in the CBD, such as DF Malan Drive, Hertzog Boulevard, or Jan Smuts Street.
From there, spectators can utilise the free MyCiTi shuttle service, available to all event ticket holders, departing from the CTICC Civic Centre Station or Thibault Square Station. An alternative option is to utilise the Fan Walk, a dedicated route for pedestrians.
To ensure smooth traffic flow and enhance security, several road closures will be in effect.
Sonnenberg Road, Vlei Road, Stephan Way, and Fort Wynyard Street will be closed from early morning until late on the day of the game.
Additionally, restrictions will be in place on Helen Suzman Boulevard, Beach Road, Buitengracht Street, and Granger Bay Boulevard.
The highly anticipated Vodacom URC Grand Final between the DHL Stormers and Munster is scheduled to kick off at 18:30. Spectators are advised to arrive early, as gates at the DHL Stadium will open at 15:30 to allow ample time for entry.
