Details were scarce when this article was published. However, eyewitnesses reported that the bakkie was allegedly carrying school kids when it rammed into the bus.
UPDATE: According to Arrive Alive, the victims, five schoolchildren, were aged between 13 and 16. The sixth child, reports claim, was critically injured and has since been rushed to hospital for emergency medical treatment.
According to the Cape Times, Cape Town police spokesperson Wesley Twigg revealed early indications from investigators at the crime scene suggest there may be enough probable cause to launch a culpable homicide case against one of the drivers.
From what we understand, only the school kids died from the accident, while both drivers survived with minor-to-moderate injuries.
“Mitchell’s Plain police registered a culpable homicide case for investigation following a fatal crash… this morning at about 7:30,” Twigg confirmed.
It remains unclear, at this stage, if either the bus driver or the bakkie motorist was held in custody when this article was published.

A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR: “This is a terrible, dark day in our city. As a parent, my heart breaks for those who will not see their children return home from school today. While it can never restore the lives so tragically taken, we trust that authorities will establish the full facts surrounding this incident so that there may be accountability for any wrongdoing,”
This is a developing story.
