Residents of Hout Bay are currently facing water supply disruptions due to a series of incidents being addressed by the City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation teams.
Water disruptions in Hout Bay: These areas will be affected
The City of Cape Town has identified three key areas experiencing water supply disruptions.
The first area, Valley Road, is undergoing repairs due to a leak. This has necessitated the temporary shutdown of the water supply to allow for thorough assessments and subsequent repair work.
In Longkloof, specifically around Boyskloof Road and its surroundings, a secondary leak has been discovered following a recent repair.
Lastly, the Imizamo Yethu Reservoir has suffered a burst in the line leading to the reservoir.
The team is currently assessing the damage to understand the full impact on the water supply to the area, with arrangements for water tankers to be made if necessary.
Where Hout Bay residents can get water
To assist residents affected by the water supply disruptions, the City of Cape Town has made provisions for alternative water sources.
A water tanker is available in Boyskloof Road for residents in and around the Longkloof area.
For residents in other affected areas, updates on the locations of additional water tankers will be provided as arrangements are made.
Residents are advised to stay informed through the City’s official communication channels for updates on water tanker locations and timings.
Safety measures to take during water supply disruptions
During these disruptions, residents are urged to follow safety measures to ensure water quality and conserve available water.
It is advisable to boil any water obtained from tankers before drinking or cooking with it, to prevent waterborne illnesses.
Residents should also store water in clean, sealed containers to maintain its quality.
Additionally, minimising water usage to essential needs can help extend the available supply until normal service resumes.
