This incident, now under investigation by Western Cape police, transpired on the morning of Wednesday, 4 October 2023, near the Montague Gardens area.
Shaufik Nassar, originally from the Arab town of Tira in central Israel, was in the city when the fatal shooting took place, according to sources.
More chilling, his death eerily mirrors a similar fate that befell his cousin Abdel Fattah Nassar, who was gunned down almost a year ago during his visit to Cape Town.
Initially reported as an automobile-related fatality, the foreign ministry later clarified that Abdel had died in a gun battle.
Further investigation into this case has led to revelations hinting at a broader narrative.
Sources close to the situation suggest that some members of the extended Nassar family had relocated to South Africa to escape violence stemming from alleged involvement in criminal activities back home.
Abdel Fattah Nassar had several arrests on his record in Israel, suspected of violent crimes including shootings and possession of firearms.
The incident on Wednesday morning was detailed by Cape Town police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, who confirmed that a murder case is actively being investigated.
According to the police report, around 08:00 in the morning, a motorcyclist pulled up next to Nassar’s Mercedes-Benz G-Class on Bosmansdam Road in Milnerton.
The rider then fired multiple shots at Nassar, causing fatal injuries.
Despite efforts to flee the attack, Nassar’s vehicle veered into oncoming traffic post the assault. The medical personnel who arrived at the scene declared Nassar deceased.
The perpetrator, who made a swift escape, remains at large as the motive behind this cold-blooded murder continues to be elusive.
