Cape Town police who, in the past week, have been overburdened with incidents of violence, are investigating a triple murder that occurred in Delft.
Delft triple murder: Cape Town police prioritise motive for vicious attack
In a statement, provincial police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut revealed a team of homicide detectives have launched a manhunt into a triple murder that occurred in Voorburg, Delft, on Wednesday, 9 August 2023.
According to Traut, police were called to a residence on Eendrag Crescent at approximately 20:25, where the bodies of three males aged between 28 and 36 were found swimming in pools of blood.
Based on evidence collected from eyewitness accounts, it’s believed at least three men ambushed the house and opened fire indiscriminately, striking five victims, two of whom were still alive when emergency medics arrived at the scene minutes later.
At this stage, Traut revealed, motive is high on the list of priorities of the triple murder investigation. One glaring clue homicide detectives noted was that the perpetrators of the attack left empty-handed, suggesting the incident was not a robbery.
“While the suspects are being sought, detectives are looking at all possibilities to determine a motive for the attack,” Col Traut revealed.
Delft has been a cesspool of violence in recent weeks. Earlier this week, law enforcement authorities clashed with rioters who took advantage of the ongoing taxi strike and looted shops.
In one video, which you can watch below, a gob-smacked shopper captured footage of the carnage Delft looters left at a Shoprite supermarket.

It’s unclear, at this stage, if the triple murder is, in any way, linked to the ongoing Cape Town taxi strike.
This is a developing story.
