The third day of Comic-Con Cape Town saw fans return in large numbers to take advantage of the festival’s vast landscape of entertainment offerings.
Comic-Con Cape Town: Here’s what went down on Day 3
British actor David Oakes took to the stage for the first time at the festival to answer the audience’s burning questions about his career, life and his time in Cape Town.
American actress Tati Gabrielle also shared her experience in the city and her approach to choosing her roles. DJ Fresh produced a recording of his brand-new podcast WAW!! (What A Week) and welcomed local illustrator Loyiso Mkhize.
Production Designer Kerry Von Lillienfeld gave fans a behind-the-scenes look into her most well-known bodies of work. Eager cosplayers lined up backstage for the Ubisoft Character Contest Cosplay Competition, and Fred Wolf was crowned the winner.
In Artist Alley, international and local illustrators came together for a panel discussion highlighting the importance of telling ethnically diverse stories. South African illustrators became the talk of the day with a panel discussion geared towards celebrating the artists who are putting Africa on the global stage.
The Pop Culture Content Zone presented a dynamic programme, including an Introduction to Painting a 3D Printed Miniature, a discussion on the importance secret identities play in the universes, and Where to Start navigating content Creation in the South African Geek Space, among other things.
Experts shared their observations of the state of the board game industry, challenges, and tips with creators looking to make a board game. StreamerCon hosted panel discussions to support up-and-coming creators on their journey, exploring how to create community-driven content and be a creator.
“Being part of Comic Con this year has given us a chance to speak to people who watch a lot of animation, and to do a lot of activations with people who didn’t know about animation, and specifically the South African Animation Industry. We hope the delegates are walking away with a sense of pride about their country and about the industry and join us for FAME Week from the 4th to the 6th of September,” CTIAF director Dianne Makings said.
