Starting Monday, 27 November 2023, Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will conduct planned maintenance, affecting water supply in several areas.
These areas to be affected by Cape Town water maintenance
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has scheduled critical maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs, and replacements.
This proactive approach aims to enhance the water supply infrastructure, ensuring its long-term reliability.
Areas Affected by Water Supply Disruption:
Goodwood Area
The area bounded by Voortrekker Road, Jakes Gerwel Drive, the railway line, and Alice Street will experience water supply disruptions from 09:00 to 17:00 on both Tuesday, 28 November, and Thursday, 30 November 2023.
This is to facilitate the tie-in of a new water supply pipeline with the existing infrastructure.
Gordon’s Bay (Dobson)
A significant part of Gordon’s Bay, outlined by Sir Lowry’s Pass Road, Dennehoek Road, Disa Road, and the Coastline, will have its water supply shut off from 08:00 to 18:00 on Tuesday, 28 November 2023.
Residents are advised to store water in advance for domestic use.
Constantia, Plumstead, and Meadowridge
Selected roads in these areas will face intermittent water supply interruptions from 09:00 to 17:00 on Tuesday, 28 November 2023, for valve and fire hydrant repairs and replacements.
Plumstead and Diep River
Specific roads in Plumstead and Diep River will also undergo intermittent water supply disruptions on the same day for similar maintenance work.
Guidance for Cape Town residents during water maintenance
Residents should store sufficient water in clean, sealed containers for use during the disruption period. Keeping taps closed is advised to prevent water loss or damage when the supply is restored.
Initially, the water may appear discoloured or milky due to trapped air. This should clear up if the water is allowed to stand.
This maintenance is part of the Directorate’s ongoing efforts to reduce unaccounted-for water and ensure continuous water supply.
