Cape Town will experience scheduled electricity shutdowns in parts of Hout Bay and Llandudno on 4 and 11 November 2023.
Cape Town electricity shutdown: Here’s everything you must know
The City’s Electricity Generation and Distribution Department has announced that essential maintenance work will take place on two separate dates:
Saturday, 4 November 2023, from 21:00 to 08:00 the following day for Footprint 2. An alternate date is 18 November 2023.
Saturday, 11 November 2023, from 21:00 to 08:00 the following day for Footprint 1.
This maintenance work will focus on the major Bisschop Substation in the area. The primary aim of this electricity shutdown is to ensure a more reliable electricity supply for residents in the affected areas.
Precautions and safety measures to take note of
Residents should be aware that the electricity supply could be restored at any time during the shutdown. As a safety measure, all electrical installations should be treated as live for the full duration of the interruption.
The City encourages residents to switch off appliances to minimise the risk of damage caused by potential power surges when the electricity is restored.
“The City apologises for any inconvenience caused,” the statement concluded.
