According to user reports and outage tracking platforms like Down Detector, the problems began in the early hours of Friday and persisted throughout the morning.
The majority of complaints, amounting to 58%, were related to difficulties in accessing online banking features.
Mobile banking services were also significantly impacted, with 31% of the reports highlighting issues. Moreover, about 12% of users faced trouble with logging into their accounts online.
One particularly vocal user expressed their frustration on a social media platform, stating,
“[Nedbank] your services are down as usual. I need to use the banking app as we speak. I’m losing money and I can’t. Your usual annoying excuse is maintenance. Ai f**** maan don’t bring service that is not there. I regret I ever joined this nonsense of a bank.”
This sentiment seemed to echo across the customer base, with many pointing out the regularity of such outages and the lack of timely communication from the bank regarding the issue.
