A severe head-on collision on the N2 near Gingindlovu, KZN, led to at least two deaths and multiple injuries, reports confirmed.
IPSS medical and rescue teams were at the scene of the pile-on when this article was published, alongside EMRS and the Rural Metro Fire Department, working tirelessly to treat the injured and extricate those entrapped.
From what we understand, the collision has resulted in serious to critical injuries for at least four individuals.
The accident has caused significant disruption, and authorities are urging motorists to avoid the area as rescue operations continue.
Fatal road accidents on the rise ahead of busy Easter
The accident near Gingindlovu follows a distressing trend of road incidents, including the major N14 pile-up that injured 24 people near Thachfield, on Tuesday.
Moreover, on Monday, highway security cameras captured the catastrophic collision of two trucks on the R34, near Mpungamhlophe, KZN, which led to the death of one driver, and the other fighting for his life in hospital.
These incidents have prompted a call to action from the Ministry of Transport for improved road safety measures, especially concerning public transport vehicles.
With Easter approaching, a time known for its heightened travel activity, Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga appealed to all road users to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic laws.
“We wish all the families, loved ones and friends strength during this period of deep sorrow. We also wish a speedy return to good health to all the people who sustained injuries during these sad and tragic occurrences,” she said.
