A significant fire outbreak occurred early this morning at Springfield Park China Mall, leading to extensive efforts by firefighters to contain the blaze.

Firefighters from the eThekwini Fire Department responded promptly to the fire at Springfield Park China Mall, which reportedly started around 01:00 on Wednesday.
Despite valiant efforts to minimise the extent of the damage, the inferno raged unabated for more than six hours, causing possibly irreparable damage to the prominent Durban business park.
Bheki Hadebe, the division commander, confirmed that the fire was contained by 07:20, and the team was focused on damping down the affected shops to prevent a wildfire outbreak.
Fortunately, there were no serious injuries or fatalities reported.

Moreover, Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell revealed that only one wing of the mall was affected by the fire.
More importantly, however, teams of SAPS units from Newlands West, Greenwood Park, and Sydenham were crucial in maintaining order and preventing possible looting incidents amidst the chaos caused by the fire.
When this article was published, business owners from the unaffected areas were clearing out the debris and moving whatever inventory that survived the inferno to designated areas of Springfield Park that were not affected by the fire.
