On Friday, The Weeknd released a new track featuring Future, titled Double Fantasy, which is the title track of the upcoming HBO series, The Idol.
The Weeknd reunites with Future on ‘Double Fantasy’
The song premiered during Metro Boomin’s set at the first weekend of 2023 Coachella and was officially released for streaming on Thursday.
Alongside the track release, an official music video was also released.
This is not the first collaboration between The Weeknd and Future.
The two artists previously collaborated on the track Comin Out Strong, which was featured on Future’s 2017 album, Hndrxx. The two artists have previously worked together on several other tracks, including Low Life, which was released in 2016.
Double Fantasy shares a title with the classic album by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, which was released in 1980, just weeks before Lennon’s untimely death.
The Weeknd’s track is not a cover or a remix of any of the songs on the album but rather takes inspiration from the album’s title.
The Weeknd has been teasing the release of The Idol for several months, and the series is set to make its debut at the Cannes Film Festival in July 2023
The show is executive produced by The Weeknd and Reza Fahim and follows a pop singer who rises to fame and must navigate the music industry.
The release of Double Fantasy and the upcoming premiere of The Idol is just the latest in a string of projects for The Weeknd.
He released his highly anticipated album, After Hours, in 2020, and has since collaborated with a number of other artists, including Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, and Calvin Harris.
