The family of the late Mac Miller, real name Malcolm McCormick, found a semblance of closure at a Los Angeles (LA) court after one of the dealers responsible for the rapper’s tragic death was sentence to 11 years for his role in selling laced drugs, on Monday.
Mac Miller dealer gets 11 years for selling laced drugs
Per TMZ, Ryan Reavis, one of three men linked to the death of the Pittsburgh hitmaker, was sentenced to 10 years and 11 months for his role in providing Miller with drugs laced with feetanyl, an opioid 50 times stronger than heroin.
Reavis pleaded guilty in November 2021 and had hoped to get off with a light five-year jail term. Much to his dismay, however, this request was doubled.
Despite repeated pleas from Reavis’ lawyers, who are adamant he is only a small fish in a sea of sharks, a federal investigation found that he was very much active as a dealer, and not the drug runner he claims to be.
The two other suspects in the death of Mac Miller are Cameron Pettit and Stephen Walter, who recently pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl.
“He would never knowingly take a pill with fentanyl, ever. He wanted to live and was excited about the future. The hole in my heart will always be there.” Miller’s mother, Karen Meyers told the court on Monday.
Mac Miller was found dead in his LA home, on 7 September 2018. A toxicology report later confirmed the rapper had died from a lethal cocktail of fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol.
Pettit and Walter have yet to be sentenced for their role in the death of Miller.
