DJ Maphorisa drew the line in the sand on his relationship with Makwa when he levelled a number of startling accusations against the fellow producer.
DJ Maphorisa drags Makwa in Facebook rant
In a series of Facebook posts that went viral, Maphorisa lambasted Makwa as a drug addict whose entire career is copied from “his wave”.
“You copied my wave from Ngud‘ by Kwesta and you created Spirit etc. Fix yourself and f***ing work hard for your s***. Lazy boys, all you do is just copy and paste. Start your own s***, you [are] disgusting. I hope you stopped drinking lean, I’m disappointed,” Maphorisa wrote.
The one half of Scorpion Kings reminded Makwa of the struggle days when he’d sleep on his couch, allegedly copying his style.
“Lean is making you slow,” Maphorisa ranted.
What are the origins of the Phori x Makwa beef?
In response to the social media tirade, Makwa stated that he’s lost all respect for Maphorisa “because he didn’t think of umculo (the music), he didn’t think of people who’ve been asking for our project for years.”
“The last time I trusted someone I spoke highly of on a daily basis he f****d it up for all of us, imagine now the bridge is burned and we no longer going to work together,” the Spirit producer wrote.
Once upon a time, Phori and Makwa were inseparable, similar to how he and Kabza De Small have been joined by the hip in their ascension to the summit of the Amapiano genre.
However, as Makwa explained it in a viral episode of The Sobering Podcast, things turned sour in the camp when he and his hometown mates were allegedly duped of millions in unpaid royalties and publishing monies.
At this juncture, there is no love lost between the two super producers who each hold a valid claim in pioneering Amapiano.
Here’s the podcast episode where Makwa spoke candidly about the rise and fall of RapLyf and his relationship with Maphorisa.
