Families who dined at the Spur restaurant inside Lifestyle Centre, in Centurion, on Sunday evening, bore witness to one of the most brazen attempted robberies that ended in death.
Centurion Lifestyle Centre Spur robber killed by off-duty officer
Details around the incident have yet to be formally addressed by Centurion police, therefore, the identities of the suspects involved in the robbery that took place at the Spur family restaurant are still unknown at this stage.
However, AfriForum leader Ernst Roets was present at the restaurant and he and his family witnessed the gob-smacking events that unfolded inside the restaurant that, for the most part, is generally populated by children.
“My family and I went to eat at Lifestyle Center Spur in Centurion tonight to celebrate my son’s birthday. Just when we finished paying and walked to the door to go home an armed gang invaded the place and began robbing,” Roets wrote on a Facebook post.
According to Roets, the robbers had not counted on engaging in gunfire with an off-duty officer who just so happened to be armed at the right time.
“A shooting has erupted. One of the attackers was shot dead. After a shootout – I couldn’t count how many shots – the other fled. We are intact and as far as I know no one else was injured,” the AfriForum leader added.
Images of the suspect who wasn’t so lucky surfaced on the internet, showing the alleged robber sprawled across the floor with a handgun lying next to him.

From what we understand, at least one other suspect is still at large and, as things stand, it’s unclear if any money was taken from the Spur restaurant.
This is a developing story.
