Following a 1-1 draw between TS Galaxy and Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday, tensions flared dramatically at the end of the match.
Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena had to be separated from TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic as tempers boiled over.
This incident occurred after Peter Shalulile equalised for Sundowns in the 85th minute, cancelling out Puso Dithejane’s earlier goal for TS Galaxy.
The match ended in a draw, with Sundowns maintaining their unbeaten run and TS Galaxy holding their fourth place on the table.
TS Galaxy lawsuit against Rulani Mokoena fuelled fight
The altercation between the coaches was fuelled by ongoing legal tension.
TS Galaxy recently took their dispute with Rulani Mokwena to the High Court, accusing him of making defamatory comments.
This lawsuit stems from Mokwena’s remarks following a previous match where he alleged that Ramovic instructed his players to deliberately injure Sundowns’ midfielder Bongani Zungu.
Mokwena claimed this was part of a conspiracy, citing a previous incident where Zungu was involved in a tackle that led to striker Bernard Parker’s broken leg.
TS Galaxy and their coach Ramovic demanded a public retraction and apology from Mokwena, asserting that his statements were false and damaging.
The club filed for damages after Mokwena failed to respond to their initial letter. The legal summons added tension to the pre-match atmosphere, setting the stage for the post-match clash.
TS Galaxy vs Sundowns match highlights
The match itself was intense and closely contested.
TS Galaxy, determined to secure a win, came out strong in the second half.
Their efforts paid off when Puso Dithejane scored with just 12 minutes remaining.
However, Sundowns showcased their resilience as Peter Shalulile headed in an equaliser from an Aubrey Modiba cross just five minutes before the final whistle.
Despite the draw, the match was overshadowed by the post-match events and the legal battle between the coaches.
