Celine Dion ‘My Heart Will Go On’ streams surge amid Titanic submarine tragedy
Since the search and rescue mission for the OceanGate sub came to a devastating conclusion, the beloved theme song from James Cameron’s 1997 blockbuster film Titanic has garnered over 500 000 streams on the popular music platform, per Complex.
Renowned filmmaker James Cameron, the director of Titanic, recently shared his thoughts on the Titanic submersible saga.
In the aftermath of discovering debris from the submersible and confirming the fatalities of its passengers, Cameron drew parallels between the incident and the ill-fated sinking of the Titanic.
According to Cameron, members of the deep submergence engineering community expressed concerns about the experimental nature of the OceanGate submersible and its suitability for carrying passengers.
They even went as far as writing letters to the company, urging them to seek certification and cautioning against the potential dangers involved.
Drawing a haunting comparison, Cameron noted the similarity between the Titanic disaster, where the captain disregarded warnings of ice ahead and resulted in numerous casualties, and the recent tragedy involving the submersible.
He described it as a “very similar tragedy where warnings went unheeded” and expressed astonishment that such events could unfold at the exact location with the vast amount of diving activities occurring worldwide.
The filmmaker deemed the situation to be surreal and highlighted the importance of heeding warnings in high-risk environments.
