The incident unfolded on a quiet Monday afternoon when an unknown assailant attacked the student just outside the school premises.
Swiftly taken to the hospital, the community was left reeling from the unexpected violence. The Western Cape Education Department promptly responded in a statement, confirming that a support team was on-site, on Tuesday, to provide counselling to both learners and teachers affected by the traumatic event.
“We appeal to anyone with any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrator to contact SAPS immediately,” spokesperson Kerry Mauchline said.
The student, whose day took a harrowing turn, was promptly attended to by medical professionals and is currently under hospital care.
Details about the victim’s condition remain closely guarded, respecting the family’s privacy during this challenging time.
This incident has reignited previous tensions within the school community, leading to renewed protests against the school’s administration, specifically targeting headmaster Natalie Bailey.
Discontent had been brewing since January 2024, with parents expressing dissatisfaction with various administrative decisions.
The most recent protests saw parents and community members vocally demanding Bailey’s resignation, citing mishandling of academic progressions among other grievances.
