Update on breakdowns and available capacity

On Friday, Eskom reported more than 14 675MW of generation capacity lost to breakdowns, with an additional 3 908MW offline due to several units placed out of commission for planned maintenance.

In the last 24 hours, Eskom’s generation fleet lost a generation unit each at Grootvlei and two at Hendrina contributing to the current capacity constraints.

“Eskom teams are working around the clock to return these generating units to service over the next few days,” the power utility wrote.
