Finally, after two years, Johannesburg Pride 2022 has returned for the 33rd march for LGBTIQ+ rights in South Africa. Here is everything you need to know about dates, venues and how to buy tickets.
Johannesburg Pride 2022: Where and when will it take place?
With the support of well-known corporations in the business district like Sandton City Mall, Mercedes-Benz, Pride Insure, Coca-Cola South Africa, eMedia, and Flight Centre, the streets of Sandton will be painted in rainbow colours on Saturday, 29 October 2022, from 10:00.
The Pride Village will feature various types of food and beverage stalls, as well as a street market.
At 14:00, the JHB March will begin at Pride Village, with participants being led through Sandton’s streets. A medical doctor will be on call for attendees’ safety throughout the festival. Additionally, SAPS, Johannesburg Metro Police, and private security will be on duty to protect festivalgoers.
Taking to their Instagram, the Johannesburg Pride wrote:
“Put on your walking shoes .. or heels and join us for the Johannesburg Pride march.”
MsParty, DJ Skye, Atlanta, King B, DJ Imme, and Tamara Dey are just some of the performers who will grace the stage.
However, details on the after-party hosted by Pride of Africa’s exclusive entertainment are yet to be released to the public.
The first march in South Africa was organised by an NGO founded by the late anti-apartheid activist Simon Nkoli. Nkoli understood the connection between his political and gay rights struggles.
