Advocate Maselesa Teffo, the legal representative defending four of the five murder-accused in the Senzo Meyiwa trial was arrested inside the courtroom, and it was all caught on camera.
What was Advocate Teffo arrested for?
The trial of the slain Orlando Pirates legendary goalkeeper resumed on Thursday with investigating officer Sergeant Thabo Mosia facing cross examination.
Following a series of objections from defence teams on the nature of Mosia’s responses, a decision was made by Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela to postpone proceedings until 30 May 2022.
Already, tensions were palpable inside the courtroom, following a butting of heads between Teffo and the judge, but nothing could have prepared attendees for the dramatic scenes that unfolded in the courtroom.
Right when court officials were wrapping up the day’s session, a team of police officers, led by a detective, walked up to Advocate Teffo and to effect an arrest warrant.
Truly, the gob-smacking moment was a first-for-TV in South Africa’s courtroom history. At first, no mention was made of what the legal representative was being nabbed for.
However, in an interview with eNCA, assistant lawyer Advocate Zandile Mshololo confirmed the warrant of arrest issued to Teffo relates to a court appearance he failed to honour.
Asked about the possible charges Teffo faces, Mshololo revealed the warrant document contained no such information.
