Gunna kicked off the year with the first top-draw Hip-Hop release of 2022 with his brand new DS4EVER album.
The Southside rapper is also steaming up a fresh serving of beef with rap assassin Freddie Gibbs and, somehow, this all involves, in some capacity, Gunna’s new album.
A review on DS4EVER
The 19-track project is a continuation of the Drip Season series and on the fourth instalment, we are treated to a more conscious version of Gunna. While he maintains his signature slurs, trading 16s with the usual suspects; Young Thug; Lil Baby; Future; and Roddy Rich, perhaps, for the first time ever, we see a side to Gunna he’s never overtly displayed.
Take, for example, the Turbo-produced livin wild. Gunna reflects on life on the fast lane and how, the higher up the ladder he goes, the more he pays for it with his health.
The Keith Sweat Why Me Baby? sample anchors the rapper’s pain and, for the first time, we get a more personal account of the 28-year-old’s life outside the glaring lights of stardom.
He also shows his romantic side on you and me featuring real-life love interest Chloe Bailey. The two have been rumoured to be dating after they were spotted holding hands as they left a Los Angeles Lakers game earlier this week.
Metro Boomin resurfaces with his signature percussion and, we must stress, the drum kit we all miss in Hip-Hop, on poochie gown. Coincidentally, it is on this track that Gunna’s beef with Freddie Gibbs is, for the first time, registered on wax.
I can't f*** with Freddie Gibbs (No) N**** pullin' fibs (Fibs)
It’s very clear that Gunna kept Gibbs’ trolling at the back of his mind to use it to his advantage when the need arose.
When my album drop Freddie Gibbs will the biggest moment of his career.

Remember, Gibbs has maintained that Gunna appeared on an episode of Crime Stoppers, a TV programme that followed homicide detectives on their pursuit of nabbing killers.
If u was on crime stoppers TV u a snitch. Ain’t no way around it.

Gunna, on the other hand, has vehemently denied this and, in an attempt to clear up the confusion, claimed the viral snippet was a CNN feature.
The backstory of this beef provided the perfect preamble to DS4EVER. Other prominent songs that will rotate heavily on streaming playlists and radio include:
- pushin P featuring Future and Young Thug;
- thought i was playing featuring 21 Savage;
- you and me featuring Chloe Bailey; and
- 25k jacket featuring Lil Baby
