It remains unclear, at this stage, what led to the freak incident but, unfortunately, seven-year-old Uthman Ismail was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency officials, while his brother, Moin Ismail, clung onto life and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment in ICU.
According to reports, the brothers are children of Azaad and Alia Ismail Bayat from Musgrave, Durban. At the time of his death, Uthman was expected to start in Grade 2 next year at Hartley Road Primary School. His burial is scheduled to take place at the Kenilworth Muslim Cemetery this week.
Uthman is survived by his brother Moin, who is fighting for his life in ICU, and two older brothers from Orient Islamic School, Raihaan, a Grade 9 pupil, and Uwais a matriculant.
Alpine Heath Resort was unable to provide comment on the drowning and only confirmed to Swisher Post News that the hotel’s facilities are in full operation.
