Jada Pinkett-Smith returned to the top of the trends list this week and this time, the 50-year-old spoke candidly about her sex life in marriage to famous actor Will Smith.
What Jada Pinkett-Smith said about her sex life
On the latest episode of Red Table Talk, Pinkett-Smith delved deep into unchartered parts of her 23-year-old marriage, with guest Gwyneth Paltrow who’s on a promotional run for her upcoming Netflix series Sex, Love and goop.
The part about the candid conversation between two veteran Hollywood stars that struck a chord on social media came when the 50-year-old host opened up about the troubles of her sex life with husband Will.
In a quote that’s since done the rounds on the internet, Pinkett-Smith lay the blame on her troubled sex life squarely on the iRobot actor, who supposedly isn’t all that good at communicating his sexual desires to his wife.
“It’s hard. The thing Will and I talk about a lot is the journey. We started in this at a very young age, you know, 22 years old. That’s why the accountability part really hit for me because I think you expect your partner to know [what you need], especially when it comes to sex. It’s like, ‘Well, if you love me, you should know. If you love me, you should read my mind.’ That’s a huge pitfall,” she said.
Of course, the whole premise of the Facebook talk show is centred around complete transparency between women. The discussions that would, in normal settings, not thrive all that well are confronted on Pinkett-Smith’s ‘red table’ and while this snippet may have spawned a narrative about the couple’s marriage health, the 50-year-old host did traverse deeper into the context of her ‘sex life’ comments.
Essentially, Pinkett-Smith explained to Paltrow that, despite the difficulties involved in finding a fine balance of communication in marriage, talking about things with your partner goes a long way in maintaining a healthy union.
“You tell me what you need. Tell me what you want, and on top of it, I know that I have to be accountable to do the same…I really try. It’s uncomfortable, but it’s deeply healthy, and I think around sex, because it’s something that we don’t talk about and there’s so much fantasy around it,” she said.
Social media reacts to Jada’s ‘shenanigans’
For social media commenters, though, enough was enough. Most people who ran with the initial quote share their views, seemingly at odds with Pinkett-Smith who always has controversial things to say about her marriage.
