Google Drive is a file storage and synchronisation service developed by Google. The service allows users to store files in the cloud, synchronise files across devices, and share files.
When do files pose a threat to you?
More than a billion people use the service. However, some people might not be comfortable with random users sharing files with them and there is actually an option to block other users from sharing files with you.
Some files might contain information that has the potential to abuse and harass other users. Some files might also contain spam content. The feature allows you to remove content from abusive users, even if you had previously shared content with them.
The feature, which was introduced a few months ago, is now available to all Google Workspace users.
How to block other users from sharing files with you
To block users from sharing files with you can do the following:
- Go to drive.google.com
- Right-click on a file
- In the menu, click Block (enter or choose email)
- In the window, click Block
And to unblock users you can:
- Go to drive.google.com
- At the top right, click your profile picture and then Manage your Google Account
- Click People & sharing and then Blocked
- A list opens with accounts you blocked across Google products.
- Next to that person’s name, select Remove
When you have blocked someone from Google Drive:
- They won’t be able to share files with you.
- You won’t be able to share files with them, unless you unblock them first.
- They won’t be able to access any of your files and you won’t be able to access any of theirs.
Another thing, once you block someone, this will also block them from using other Google services and apps (such as YouTube, Google Maps, Hangouts, or Google Chat) to interact with you.
