Both the N2 and R102, near Hibberdene, on the KZN South Coast are currently closed due to protest action.
According to sources, residents in Hibberdene, Pumula and Umzumbe are protesting against water shortages in the area.
Motorists are being prevented from travelling to either Port Shepstone or Durban.
KZN police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said the protest started at 6 am.
“A group of people blockaded the N2 and R102, using burning tyres and stone,” she said, [they are] complaining about the shortage of water supply in the Umzumbe area. The police are monitoring the situation.”
Mbele said damage or injuries have been reported so far.
