The original Radio Bop was the first black urban radio station, not only in the then Bophuthatswana homeland, but in the whole of South Africa. “Bop” was short for Bophuthatswana, but the mandate has since shifted and the new acronym “BOP” now referring to the "Beats of Pleasure".
