Nomuzi ‘Moozlie’ Mabena will not sell herself short out of desperation. These were the words that rang from the rapper’s Twitter account, on Friday.
Moozlie scoffs at exploitative brands
Weeks after her album Spirit of an OG dropped, Moozlie has been working the kinks of the business side of music. Behind the scenes, the 28-year-old has been maximising on her catalogue — and influence — in deals with corporations.
But, it seems her strides were hampered by a dirty proposal. Moozlie would not get into the nitty-gritty of it all, but in her tweet, she lamented on the thought that in 2021, in the midst of a stormy pandemic, “brands are still tryna play us.”
Can you believe it’s 2021 & the brands are still tryna play us? I’m the middle of a pandemic! pic.twitter.com/OqUIAquYpt

“I won’t lie it really does suck having to turn down a deal, especially when you know you & your business could use the money but 1 thing I’m never gonna do is sell myself short. Sorry… not gonna make it,” she wrote.
Naturally, Moozlie’s vulnerable moment was hijacked by hecklers who drew ire from the rapper’s apparent lack of gratitude.
“Hard lockdowns are coming soon sesi you will regret not taking those deals while you still can,” the user replied.
Moozlie’s clapback was concise and effective.
I will regret not getting exploited?! Sir… respectfully, please stop https://t.co/lF828amBTq
