Users have rushed to Twitter to vent out their frustrations with not being able to access Instagram and Facebook.
Instagram down: What is causing the outage?
According to reports, Instagram and Facebook users around the world have reported differing experiences with the apps.
It seems, at least in the interim, that the Facebook app outage has not affected all of its userbases at the same time.
Moreover, Facebook’s other messaging app, WhatsApp, has remained online in this apparent outage, it seems.
In the United States, millions of users who are celebrating Thanksgiving have taken to Twitter to vent out their frustrations, catapulting #Instagramdown as the day’s top trend worldwide.

Facebook: We are working on it
The Facebook-owned app, has issued a statement on Twitter, noting that they are aware of the blackouts experienced by most of its users.
The statement did not make any mention of a specific cause to the glitch but the folks at Instagram have assured users that the system should be back up and running very soon.
We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing Facebook’s family of apps, including Instagram. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible. #InstagramDown

As far as we know it, the issue with the Facebook-owned apps has not affected users from South Africa.
In Mzansi, we are still able to post on all platforms, with little to no interruptions.
This is a developing story. More updates will be filtered through as they come in.
