Mandla ‘Mampintsha‘ Maphumulo is not entertaining fans who are in no financial position to purchase products from his new merch line Original Shandis.
Mampintsha new merch line gets mixed reviews
The husband of Gqom queen Bongekile ‘Babes Wodumo‘ Simelane has been at the pit end of negative commentary on social media lately — as if that’s something new he’s got to deal with.
First, Mampintsha drew ire from naysayers when he revealed that R100 000 is his feature rate in 2022. While his core following qualified the rate with his accolades, some believed he was only increasing the barrier of entry for up-and-coming KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) artists in search of a breakthrough.
Then, people felt slighted by the price points of the new Mampintsha merch line, which includes:
- denim jackets (R1 500);
- branded t-shirts (R800);
- assorted t-shirts (R700);
- bucket hats (R400);
- caps (R500);
- hockey tops (R1 200); and
- jeans (R2 000)
His response, he simply DGAF
Sure enough, fans flooded the artist’s comments section, complaining about the price tag.
In response, Mampintsha casually shrugged the backlash off, reminding folks that “if you complain about the price you not the target market.”
