Many South Africans who’ve seen the viral video showing a woman sharing a waterpipe (hookah) and beer with a minor were left with a bitter taste in their mouths.
Watch: Woman shares ‘hookah’ and beer with minor
At this time, the woman’s identity is unknown but her sheer ignorance depicted in the 30-second clip you will see below has enraged many on social media.
While it’s unclear when the video was taken, there is no statute of limitation to child neglect. In the clip, the woman is seen seated on a camp chair with a hookah pipe in her hand.
She and her mates, who are out of frame, cheer on as a little girl puffs on the same pipe. To her right, the only sensible crew mate tries to intervene when the woman hands a bottle of Corona beer to the minor but her efforts are quickly shot down.
The clip ends as the little girl takes a swig of the beer that contains 4.6% alcohol by volume.
The viral video prompted comment from EFF leader Mbuyiseni Ndlozi who appropriately described this as a shameful act that “reflects a generally child-hating society.”
This is shameful, criminal and reflects a generally child hating society! It is consistent with the culture of child neglect, homicide & abuse! pic.twitter.com/0eQ21koA7A
