The coldblooded murder of 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery is another glaring indication of the racial hatred that still exists in the United States.
Three months after his murder, the world has been rocked by leaked footage showing how Arbery, an avid runner and aspiring boxer, was brutally murdered.
Watch: Leaked footage of Ahmaud Arbery murder
Arbery, a Georgian native, would have turned 26 years old on Friday 8 May. Instead, on this day, his family and loved ones will be forced to relive the death he suffered at the hands of two suspects who claim to have had enough probable cause to defend themselves against an alleged burglar.
Gregory McMichael, a retired investigator in the Brunswick district attorney’s office, and his son Travis claim that on Sunday 23 February, they pursued Arbery in a pickup truck as they had sufficient reason to believe that he was responsible for the spate of house robberies that allegedly plagued Satilla Hills.
In the video, filmed by a driver who was trailing behind the McMichaels’, you can see Travis attempt to confront a nonchalant Arbery. The jogger’s attempt to avert all confrontation led to his tragic death.
Travis jumped out of the pickup hoisting a shotgun. Arbery was seen running around the passenger side of the truck but as he came around to the front, he saw Travis pointing the shotgun at him.
In an attempt to grab the gun from McMichael’s son, you can hear a loud shot go off and then another is heard before the clip ends.
Who was behind the camera? Is he a suspect?
The emergence of the video has ramped up speculation around the murder case. As reported by ABC News, Bryan Williams, a Satilla Hills resident and acquaintance of McMichael is the alleged cameraman.
The short video clip depicts him as the one who was chasing behind the McMichaels and Arbery. Although he is not seen interacting with the suspects, he has been accused as an accomplice. Of course, no evidence of this has been produced as yet.
The murder investigation has been spearheaded by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation who are working closely with the Glynn County Police Department to close this case.
However, based on the progress of the indictment over the past three months, it does not seem like it will be as straightforward as normal murder cases.
