The school shooting, which occurred on Monday, 20 May 2024, stemmed from a disagreement over the selling of achar by students on school grounds.
Chaos erupted when the security guard attempted to stop the learners from selling achar, leading to a confrontation.
Defiant learners refused to follow the guard’s instructions, prompting him to reach for his firearm. The entire altercation was captured on video, showing a crowd of learners confronting the guard in a classroom.
In the video, the students can be heard taunting the guard, daring him to shoot.
As the tension escalated, the guard walked out of the classroom and discharged a shot into the ground, apparently to scare the students.
The sound of the gunshot caused panic among the students, but fortunately, there were no reported injuries or casualties.
The incident quickly drew the attention of law enforcement, with police detectives arriving at the school to investigate. It remains unclear whether the security officer will face arrest or charges for discharging the firearm.
What was the school’s response?
