A video showing a white male releasing a flood of urine on the belongings of a Stellenbosch University student has gone viral on social media.

Stellenbosch University urine video: Alleged racist issues apology

The tertiary’s student representative council, led by the South African Students Congress (SASCO) confirmed the incident took place at the Huis Marais residence, on Sunday, inside a first-year student’s dormitory.

It’s alleged the black student was asleep when, out of nowhere, a white male, believed to be an occupant of the same residence, barged into his room and, without warning or provocation, pulled out his privates and started urinating on his study desk, which held his course work, textbooks and a laptop.

“When [questioned] by the victim, the racist response was that it is what they do to black boys,” SASCO exclaimed.

Video footage taken by the first-year student surfaced on social media and went viral, prompting calls for the university to act decisively against what is deemed a racist attack.

Stellenbosch University’s head of student affairs, Dr Choice Makhetha, condemned the alleged racist incident and confirmed the matter is being investigated.

“The residence management, in the meanwhile, also strongly condemned the incident and took steps to manage the repercussions in the residence,” Dr Makhetha noted.

The tertiary’s SRC was expected to meet with the victim, on Monday. The fellow student accused of racism, on the other hand, was removed from the residence. However, it is unclear, at this stage, if any further sanctions were applied.

In this clip, the man filmed in the viral Stellenbosch University urine video, was heard issuing a public apology for his behaviour, during a lecture.

This is a developing story.
