Every great artist from all walks of life goes through the humiliation AKA experienced at a recent live show this past weekend.
Watch: AKA botched crowd-surf attempt at Rustenburg
The almighty Supamega has had his fair share of bad press in recent weeks. His highly publicised breakup with baby momma slash Africa’s biggest female disc jockey, DJ Zinhle, did not bode well for the rapper who is tipped to be in bed with a college girl.
Then, in the midst of all that drama, the Touch My Blood star surfaced online with a new hairstyle. That too was not received very well, with trolls teasing AKA of living through an existential midlife crisis — and he isn’t even 40+.
None of these incidents matched the trolling he received for failing a crowd-surfing attempt at an event held in Rustenburg, North West, this past weekend.
Crowd-surfing is never a guaranteed move. It is all about the momentum. Build up enough rage in your performance and the fans will almost anticipate the jump. Nail it, and you’ll get a picturesque moment that will live on in the memories of those who caught you. Fail, and well, you will most certainly trend for all the wrong reasons.
It is surely uncharacteristic of AKA but the latter was the eventuality, unfortunately. Mega’s attempt to crowd-surf failed dismally. The rapper did not even bother to dust himself off and make his way back on stage.
He just laid there for a while, seemingly in tears as the fall must have been a hard and painful one — Eish!
We will applaud AKA for being a sport about the whole incident, though. In reaction to the video, the rapper took to social media to make fun of himself for such an epic fail.
Here’s his light-hearted reaction to the fail:
