Sandton City was a scene of horror on Wednesday evening, when an unidentified woman jumped to her death inside the shopping mall.
Sandton City: What we know about the fatal jump
At this time, authorities have not released a statement with particulars of the female whose lifeless body was sprawled on the floor of the premium shopping centre.
However, Sandton City management released a statement confirming that the incident took place at approximately 20:26.
“Sandton City confirms that on 13 October 2021, at approximately 20:26 an individual jumped to their death. Emergency services responded to the scene immediately, but the individual has unfortunately been pronounced dead. The South African Police Service are currently on the scene, with an investigation underway. Sandton City Management send their deepest condolences to the family of the deceased,” the mall noted in the statement.
While Sandton police are yet to provide updates on the incident, it’s believed investigations are underway to determine the identity of the woman and the possible reason behind the fatal jump.
Mall shoppers who were at the scene shortly after the woman fell to her death took videos of the aftermath, which showed the woman’s lifeless body laying in a pool of blood.
