Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane was named best head coach in Egypt, a prestigious award handed to him by the country’s Sports Critics Association.
Pitso Mosimane dominates African football with flare
It’s been less than two years since the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns coach transitioned north to lead Africa’s Red Devils. Since he joined the club, Mosimane has progressed his team to the CAF Champions League knockout stages and help Al Ahly clinch their 37th Egypt Cup title.
The Club World Cup outing may not have been a success but there is much to be applauded about Al Ahly finishing third in the competition after coming up short to Bayern Munich in the semis.
Mosimane reacts to best coach award
The possibility of achieving a treble with the Red Devils seems like a realistic possibility for Mosimane. The team is favourites to make it to the CAF Champions League final where he may have to face his former club.
In the Egyptian Premier League, Al Ahly sit third with seven games in hand. A good run of fixtures would send them forth towards another league title.
What are Mosimane’s views on his recent wins? Here is what the former Sundowns coach had to say after receiving his award.
“I’m very grateful to have been awarded the Best Manager award, and I thank everyone who voted for me,” Pitso Mosimane said in his acceptance speech. I accept it on behalf of the players, the coaching staff, the board of directors and the fans.
“I feel here as if I’m at home in Egypt. I feel welcomed and warmth, and I have a great responsibility with a big team. We have a match on Wednesday, and after that, I will talk about the derby,” the South African said.
Al Ahly’s next fixture will see them welcome Al Nasr in the CAF Round of 32, on Wednesday 14 April.
