Up next on the ‘must fall’ chopping block is KFC.
KFC in hot water over insensitive tweet
The fried chicken fast-food chain has found itself in hot water over a tweet that was not digested well by users on Twitter.
KFC has since deleted the tweet but, unfortunately, not soon enough, as screenshots of it were already circulating on social media. This is the tweet that has cancel culture up in arms:
Was this a microaggression or are we overreacting?
The tweet from KFC SA’s account was taken as a slight towards the Tsonga culture. The caption, “when you can’t decide on a colour, so you wear them all,” may have been said in gest.
However, the ill-timing of it makes all the outrage applicable. Lest we forget, it was only a few days ago that we were winded by the blatant ignorance Clicks exposed in that epic website blunder.
Of course, the other side to it is, this was a good play on words in describing the Tsonga participants of Family Feud SA.
What matters most, though, is the sentiment shared by the people, and they were not amused.
Here are some of the reactions we picked out from social media:
KFC, following the backlash, quickly deleted the content from social media and did not make any statement.
This is a developing story.
