Both videos featured a recipe for Biang Biang noodles, and fans couldn’t help but notice the striking similarities in the shooting and editing styles.
The timing and resemblance have sparked a heated debate online about whether Nara is overhauling her entire content strategy to mirror Onezwa’s.
The controversy isn’t new.
Back in June, Nara Smith faced backlash for allegedly stealing content ideas from Onezwa.
Onezwa, a well-known chef and influencer who gained fame from her stint on MasterChef Season Four in 2022, has accused Nara of using her ideas to rack up millions of views and profit from them, while Onezwa struggles to get brand collaborations.
In a tearful series of Instagram Stories, Onezwa expressed her frustration and heartbreak.
“The reason I’m taking a break is that for months I have watched a very popular content creator use my ideas. She has continuously used my ideas to get views,” she said.
She emphasised the disparity in earnings, noting:
“In SA we don’t get paid for views, and where she is [Germany] they are paid for views. She has been making money by stealing my content.”
Onezwa cited specific instances, such as her boba tea video, which was followed by a similar video from Nara the very next day.
“People comment on my videos, saying I am the South African Nara Smith. How am I the South African Nara Smith when she’s stealing my content?” she lamented.
Nara, however, has denied these accusations. When confronted about the boba tea video, she brushed off the claims, insisting it was a coincidence.
Who is Nara Smith?
Nara Smith, born Nara Aziza Pellman, hails from Bloemfontein, South Africa, with a Mosotho mother and a German father.
She moved to Frankfurt, Germany, as an infant and later relocated to California at 18.
Discovered at 14 through the We Love Your Genes campaign of IMG Models, Nara’s modelling career took off, but it was her viral TikTok content that skyrocketed her to fame.
Known for her “tradwife” content, Nara posts videos of herself cooking elaborate meals while dressed in designer clothes.
She also shares her unconventional taste in baby names, being pregnant with her third child.
Her content has drawn both admiration and criticism, with some speculating that it’s a covert attempt to promote Mormonism.
Nara married fashion model Lucky Blue Smith in 2020, and together they have three children.
She has amassed over 8 million followers on TikTok and over 3 million on Instagram.
