Eskom announced, in a statement, the return of stage 2 loadshedding.
Eskom implements stage 2 loadshedding
The power utility noted, with regret, that severe generation capacity constraints necessitated the return of rolling blackouts from 17:00 on Tuesday evening.
At this time, the national electricity provider added, loadshedding will be sustained at stage 2 until 05:00 on Monday 9 May 2022.
“This loadshedding has been caused by a shortage of generation capacity owing to delays in returning generations to service, as well as breakdowns of nine generators,” Eskom noted.
It seems, prolonged issues at Lethabo, Tutuka, Ingula, Drakensburg, Arnot, Hendrina and Matla power stations brought on this bout of loadshedding.
“Eskom expects to return as many of these units to service as possible over the next few days. We also expect to rely on the use of emergency generating reserves to limit the stage of loadshedding during this period,” the power utility added.
At the time this article was published, Eskom had 3 875MW of power out on planned maintenance, while another 15 067MW was disconnected from the grid due to breakdowns.
