Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals for Portugal in a 2020 Euros match against France, but it does not tell half the story of what he has achieved in that match.
Cristiano Ronaldo breaks new goal-scoring record
Ronaldo equalled Ali Daei’s international scoring record by reaching 109 goals and becoming the all-time top scorer in Euro history with 14 goals, five more than French great Michel Platini, who netted nine times when he led France to glory in 1984.
According to Sports Ndtv, Ronaldo is the first player to appear at five editions of the tournament and has scored five times in three Group F games. Daei took to Instagram to congratulate Ronaldo and his new accomplishment.
Cristiano Ronaldo vs France in epic Euros clash
France had a chance to finish top in Group F, if they didn’t lose and Germany didn’t win and this is exactly what happened.
France finished first with a draw against Portugal, Germany drew against Hungary which led them to second place, leaving Portugal in third and Hungary last place.
Portugal qualified to the Round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams.
Ronaldo scored two goals from the penalty spot either side of Karim Benzema’s brace.
According to Daily Mail, France fans hurled various objects from the stands in an attempt to distract the penalty taker. Ronaldo composed himself, opened his eyes, darted forward and fired the ball past keeper Hugo Lloris before sprinting away to perform a celebratory twirl as more plastic bottles rained down in his direction.
