According to City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi, firefighters responded promptly to the incident.
In a statement, City of Joburg MMC for Public Safety Dr Mgcini Tshwaku confirmed that fortunately, the fire only affected one of the student rooms, and it had not gained enough momentum to spread thanks, for the most part, to emergency responders.
“The fire has been successfully extinguished, affecting only one room of the building, and no injuries have been reported,” Dr Tshwaku noted.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The emergency services are currently assessing the damage and ensuring the safety of the building for its residents.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
