In a matter of days, South African pupils who sat for the last examination of their high school years will receive their 2021 matric results (NSC) in January, a moment they’ve waited for with great anticipation.
UPDATE: On Tuesday, the North Gauteng High Court ruled in favour of Afriforum, who opposed the POPIA-influenced decision taken by the Basic Education Department to not publicise matric results. Therefore, matric results will be made available on newspapers, as it has been so in the past.
“Dit is in publieke belang dat hierdie inligting op openbare platforms gedeel word en dit is een van die redes waarom ons hierdie aansoek gebring het. Ons is verheug dat die hof ons gelyk gegee het in hierdie argument,” sê Natasha Venter, bestuurder van onderwysregte by AfriForum

IEB matric results release date revealed
The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) oversees the performance of South African private schools and this cohort’s results will be released on Wednesday 19 January 2022.
It is unclear, at this juncture, if the IEB will follow the decision made by the Basic Education Department to not publish the matric results for public scrutiny. However, matriculants can still get their IEB results at their respective schools, online or by SMS.
Check IEB matric results online
The easiest way to obtain your IEB matric results is by visiting their website. You must have your exam number on hand in order to access the candidate portal.
Get your IEB results sent to your phone
The other method to getting your IEB matric results is by SMS. If you had already submitted your cellphone number to the IEB before or during the examinations, then the results will automatically be sent to you on release day.
However, you can still register to receive your results via SMS, by simply sending “results [exam number] [date of birth]” to 35135. Make sure you have at least R3 in your airtime balance.
Pupile have until 31 January 2022 to submit remarking requests. The remarking results will be released no later than 15 March 2022.
