FlySafair flight FA102 bomb threat: Here’s everything we know
In a statement, the Airports Company South Africa (ACS) confirmed that SAPS’s Bomb Squad was immediately deployed to CTIA on Thursday evening after the crew of FlySafair flight FA102, which was scheduled to depart for Johannesburg, received a bomb threat alert.
Authorities swiftly evacuated all passengers and crew members from the aircraft to ensure their safety.
ACSA and airline management were on the scene to ensure full compliance with aviation safety and security protocols. ACSA’s regional general manager for Cluster 2 Mark Maclean emphasised that “the safety and security of the passengers and crew are of utmost importance.”
He commended the swift response of the FlySafair crew and the combined efforts of SAPS and the Aviation Security (AVSEC) team in managing the situation.
ACSA confirmed that a thorough sweep of the aircraft was conducted by the SAPS Bomb Squad and AVSEC personnel. The security operation continued late into Thursday night, with increased security measures likely until the investigation is complete.
ACSA requested affected families to contact the airline for further information or media-related queries. The agency promised to provide updates as the situation progresses.
Maclean reiterated that “all necessary measures are in place to mitigate any risks associated with this threat.”
Passengers should anticipate possible flight disruptions, including delays.
