Twitter is deadset on staying ahead of the curve. The social media platform has been testing an array of soon-coming features, one of which are audio tweets.
What in the Twitter are audio tweets?
The feature is only available to a select group of users and already, it has sparked a great amount of interest worldwide.
As reported by Tech Central SA, audio tweets will be rolled out to iOS users first.
This is how the audio tweets will work
The new feature will allow Twitter users to record up to 140 seconds of audio and post it seamlessly on the timeline without eating up too much of one’s data.
To use this feature, users will simply:
- open the Tweet composer;
- tap the new icon with wavelengths;
- your profile photo will appear with the ‘record’ button at the bottom;
- tap this to record your voice.
Everything stated above is illustrated in the images below:
Some cool features that come with the Twitter update
What’s even cooler about these audio tweets is that users are not limited to 140 seconds. Say you have a lot to get off your chest. Once your audio tweet has elapsed 140 seconds, a new voice tweet will commence automatically and upon publishing, the tweet will appear as a thread on your timeline.
To listen to the tweet, users will tap on the image that appears on the post. For iOS, the audio tweet will automatically minimise and still play as users scroll down the timeline.
“On iOS only, playback will start in a new window docked at the bottom of your timeline and you can listen as you scroll. You can also keep listening while doing other things on your phone or on the go.”

This feature is not yet available in South Africa.
