PlayStation’s rollout of the PS5 continues and the latest revelation is the DualSense wireless controller, an upgrade described by the console giants as “how strongly we feel about making a generational leap.”
The road to PS5: What’s the latest?
The grand unveiling took place on Tuesday evening and the reception was mixed, to say the least. While some gamers were excited by the latest upgrades packed in the PS5 controller, others were disturbed by its off-brand design.
PlayStation has said in the past that PS5 offers an opportunity for the console to introduce the new generation of gaming that means moving away from the norm.
“DualSense marks a radical departure from our previous controller offerings and captures just how strongly we feel about making a generational leap with PS5,” Jim Ryan, Sony’s Interactive Entertainment President said.
Is the PlayStation console going to be white?
All we have seen from the console so far are draft sketches and concepts but nothing from the horse’s stable. However, an educated guess can be made that the standard PS5 will probably be white in colour, a major corporate identity shift.
We will have to wait for PlayStation on the release of the complete technical speculation of the console, but we got some great insight into the overall framework of the console which you can check out right here.
PS5 controller key features and upgrades
For now, the PS5 controller is the all the hints we are getting from the console giants for now. So, let’s dive right in.
The wireless controller comes packed with:
- two-tone colour design and a light bar;
- a slightly thicker form factor than the DualShock 4;
- haptic feedback and adaptive triggers (rumble and shock technology);
- a rechargeable battery;
- USB-C port for its power cable;
- a built-in mic to chat with friends (Sony still recommends using a headset for longer chat sessions); and
- a new Create button replaces ‘Share’ (more details about function and use will be revealed closer to launch);
“The new controller, along with the many innovative features in PS5, will be transformative for games – continuing our mission at PlayStation to push the boundaries of play, now and in the future. To the PlayStation community, I truly want to thank you for sharing this exciting journey with us as we head toward PS5’s launch in Holiday 2020. We look forward to sharing more information about PS5, including the console design, in the coming months,” Ryan said.
