On Tuesday Twitter announced on its verified Spaces account that it is experimenting with ways to help users discover more live chat rooms.
Twitter adds more ways to make Spaces discoverable
Android and iOS users will know if someone they follow is listening in on a Space, it will appear at the top of their timeline. Now, you will also be able to see who can see your listening activity in the settings.
Twitter has been working around ways to make Spaces accessible to everyone. As it stands now since the Fleets shut down, Twitter decided to put Spaces on top of the timeline where Fleets would normally appear.
Twitter took down Fleets on 3 August 2021 after determining that not many people were using the feature. The company said that they were testing the app to see if more people would express themselves more — tweet more. It seems like they have not met their goal. However, they said they are looking for many ways to make people be more vocal on the app.
Twitter was also testing the Fleets ads feature. It was one of their first explorations when they introduced the Fleets — whether they could use it as an advertising platform.
What more cool features do Spaces have?
Twitter also added a co-hosting feature so that more people can be responsible for driving or controlling the discussions in Spaces. Two people can now be hosts.
A non-disappearing raised hand emoji for people who want to speak was also added to speak. You can now indicate if you want to speak and the raised hand won’t go away until you mute it.
A Space can even have up to 10 speakers now if they request. This opens up an even bigger table to allow people to raise their views on whatever discussion is at play.
