On Wednesday TikTok announced it is testing a job application tool in the US, #TikTokResume, that allows its users to directly apply with video resumes to companies like Chipotle, Target, and Shopify. The pilot program will be running until 31 July 2021.
TikTok launches resume feature
More than 30 companies have signed up to accept resumes for the pilot program, and they include, Chipotle, Target, WWE, Alo Yoga, Shopify, Contra, Movers+Shakers, according to a post on their Community.
“TikTok Resumes is officially open and accepting TikTok video resumes. We’re humbled to be able to partner with some of the world’s most admired and emerging brands as we pilot a new way for job seekers to showcase their experiences and skillsets in creative and authentic ways. #CareerTok is already a thriving subculture on the platform and we can’t wait to see how the community embraces TikTok Resumes and helps to reimagine recruiting and job discovery,” Nick Tran, Global Head of Marketing at TikTok, said.
#TikTokResume: How to apply for a job on Tiktok?
This pilot program stems from the content, like #CareerTok, that has been popping up organically on the platform. TikTok was then encouraged to initiate the program for specifically college students and younger users on the platform.
Users who wish to apply to certain brands will create a video resume, with the hashtag #TikTokResume. They have to post it on TikTok, and then send it to the brand through the platform. Applicants are advised not to include personal contact information like their email address in the video shared on the feeds.
TikTok polishing its brand
This is definitely yet another progressive and positive move by the platform. Recently, it has removed 7 million accounts, suspected to be owned by underage users, after an outrage that the platform is stealing and using data from minors using the app.
TikTok updated its age policy and is still looking to exclude more underage users from certain features on the app, such as making profiles of children under the age of 16 private and locking the direct message feature for them.
