Google releases a Wear OS YouTube Music app for Samsung after nearly a year since the company discontinued the app on smartwatches.
Google brings back YouTube Music for Wear OS
According to 9to5Google, Google Play will now have a Wear OS version of YouTube Music which offers up access to all of your playlists, mixes, and playback controls.
Only one account can sign in to the app. If anyone attempts to sign in with another account, it will not be acknowledged by the app. Once you have signed in you will have access to the Downloads, Recommended, and Library section.
You can download playlists that you can play when you are offline. However, you can’t browse a playlist’s contents even when you downloaded it. This means that you won’t see what song will play next, even if you have put the playlist on shuffle.
How to download music for offline use on the app
You can’t play music on the app unless you download it, according to 9to5Google. This means that you can’t stream music at all. And to download the music you have to be connected to a Wi-Fi connection.
Another thing, the downloading process can only start once the smartwatch is in the charger, otherwise, it won’t happen. You can download up to 50 to 500 songs when you enable the “Smart Download” feature in the settings. However, the number of songs will depend on how much storage or memory you have.
YouTube Music Premium subscribers will enjoy access to more than 80 million songs and thousands of playlists on the new YouTube Music app for smartwatches, according to Google.
There’s also a “Restricted Mode” feature in the settings which allows you to filter out explicit content if you wish. You can also toggle “Privacy and Location” settings.
Google said that the YouTube Music app for Wear OS will not be available on old watches. The most recent Wear OS hardware will not be updated too, a watch has to be strictly Wear OS 3.
